It will work

Description
I think if we sacrifice term, we can get Matthews locked up for a smaller cap hit. He gets to become an UFA 2 years sooner and pull a "Tavares" if he chooses. Cap is tight for 1 year until you have Horton and Marleau off the books.
*** The guys I signed were for examples, you can plug any 4 million or so dman in there. And of course this doesn't take into trade considerations.

No chance Marner, Nylander and Matthews get paid that low. Terribly done, sir.

Those aren't low contracts. I used Ehlers(contract kicks in this year) as a cap comparison for Nylander. I used Pastrnak's contract as a comparable for Marner. You think Marner is a better player than Pastrnak?

Nylander’s and Marner’s contracts are about right. They probably sign identical deals for 6.5 mil per year. Matthews will probably want 8 years, but the money is right. He shouldn’t get more than that. He probably will but he shouldn’t.

Thanks, on an 8 year deal I would think he gets 11-12 million per year. The whole point of my thread is that I think on a 6 year deal we can get him cheaper. It's a win win for both team and player. He can become an UFA sooner and even more established and hopefully have Stanley Cup winner on his resume.
