The trades with Nashville and Dallas won't happen. Gardiner is worth much more and they wouldn't trade a blue chip prospect in liljegren for anything short of a top two defenseman.

lefs give up their top 2 prospects and STILL dont get a top pairing dman?

This is a really good big-picture build. You're giving up a lot in each trade to fill specific needs, and to diffuse a time bomb of RFAs a bit. I keep seeing Leafs builds with Carrick on the 2nd pair. I think you've legitimately pushed him back to being a spare part again. Defense wins championships. Manson and Ekholm are fantastic two-way defensemen. Fiala can score some points.

I think they probably wait a year before trading away part of their wealth of forwards, but wit's a neat idea.
