Dallas would not risk their future drafting prospects for Patches as they are a rebuilding team and want to build through the draft.

I see this as

taking on Spezza = 3rd round pick
Byron = 2nd round pick
Pacioretty = 1st and 4th round picks

And Pacioretty is worth more then a pick that’s probably in the 20s and a 4th rounder

So Montreal says no
