What's the rationale behind swapping bottom six players and giving Calgary a 4th and an almost-NHL-ready goalie?

1. Because Bennett has the potential to become a top-6 forward. Sheahan is and always will be a bottom-6 forward.

2. Bennett can slide over to LW as well, which Sheahan doesn’t do.

3. Bennett can possibly be the 3rd line center at the start of the 2019-2020 season if Sullivan desires.

Bennett is a bust. Just forget about his draft position and look at what he is at the NHL level. The difference in value between the two guys isn't significant.

Sheahan can do that, though he would be best suited as the team's 4th line center.

He could but his Qualifying offer would be over 2 million. You aren't really saving money.

If you really want Bennett, it wouldn't take a lot to get him. And it would make more sense for him to take Hagelin's spot.
