McAvoy becoming Doughty? He will be good but come on now.

Same with Donato. You're overrating him if you think he's becoming Trocheck

honestly I don't think i can recall a time when two players looked so similar at the early stages of their career. It's like he's Drew Doughty jr.

    LOL what
McAvoy is not the second coming of Orr.
People way to hyped on their players. Even the players you named on other teams. Werenski, he took a step back last year from what he did as a rookie, if you watched him play a decent amount of games you would know that.. I don't even think he's a top 10 defenseman, let alone Norris material. And Jones is going on 24, I hate to break it to you, but you hit your physical peek in your mid 20s, which means he's at his peek right now and he's still not close to winning a Norris. He's not even top 5. He's been in the league for going on 6 years now. What you see is what you get.
McAvoy is OK, but he's just that, OK. He's not winning the Norris any time soon, if ever. He's had the luxury of playing next to Chara. Wait till he retires. Probably next year, and see what you get.

Donato is a good young player, he has potential but he has to do something with it first.

There's two ways to look at it. People overrate their own young players, or maybe just see them more frequently. When it comes to subjective, non stat oriented stuff, I think sometimes fans just see the particular player more and see what they can do. I understand that I lose a bit of credibility when evaluating McAvoy, because I'm a bruins fan, but let me say two things before I launch into it. 1. No one on this planet hated that draft pick more than me. I like Chychrun better at D and plenty of guys better up front. 2. I'm normally pretty critical of the bruins D line. Onward.

McAvoy stepped into the playoffs last year, cranked out 26 minutes a night through 6 games, and honestly, he looked like the best d man on the ice not named Karlsson. It was kind of unnerving. They tried bringing him in slow (he only played because 2/3 of their d men were hurt), and after the first period they just started giving him every tough assignment because he was a monster. Apparently teams thought it was a fluke, because when the season started and he was paired with Chara, everyone dumped the puck in his corner. First they tried to dump it in and go hit him, and he just spun off the hits and started transition. Then they tried to beat him to the puck, and he would just knock them off the puck and move on. After about 20 games of it looking too easy, they started dumping it in Chara's corner. The offense is still a work in progress, he put up just over a half point per game (Doughty in his first season was at exactly 1/3 point per game), much like Doughty's was in his first year in the league, but the similar "ranginess," is just so remarkably similar. They look so similar it's scary.
