2018-19... bottom 5 finish. Miss out on jack Hughes but get a Top D in Bowen Byram. A much needed D. Let UFAs walk and swing Nashville trade at deadline. Play the kids a lot
2019-20. Bottom 5 finish again. Again let UFA go and this year get some lottery luck and get Lafreniere #1 overall... apparently the best player to come out of Q since Crosby. Let the rest of kids develop
2020-21... it’s on! That top 9 forward has potential to dominate long term. Still 27M under the cap and with Nielsen, Helm and Abby contracts expiring potential is there to keep this team together long trem

Wings do not trade Zetterberg, due to cap recapture if he does retire. And why do the Ducks take his salary in to begin with?

Unless we resign Nyquist, He's a pending UFA in 2019 therefore he's not under contract in 2020 so we can't deal him. And 2020 would be the last year of Z's contract. Were'nt dealing Z and facing a possible recapture here. Z is retiring as a Red Wings that's a known fact.

There was no LTIR option for Zetterberg. Nyquist trade is at this coming deadline... 2019 as the trade notes states
