You don't pay guys 8M+ a year to score 90points once in their carrer. I think best thing to do is sign a 2-3 year bridge until he proves he can be worth that kind of money, being more consistent as you mentioned.

90 points will be his high water mark but I predict regularly being around 80 points from 23 years old to 29. There are guys making close to that, who have no where close the talent level Nylander has. It really seems that many want Nylander to earn his big contract, while they are more than willing to hand Marner and Matthews keys to the vault. Its weird. He isn't a depth guy, he's part of the core and therefore should get paid like he's part of the core. If you are looking to save money, save money on the depth guys, don't sign Johnsson and Kapanen to deals over 2 million next summer and if they don't like it trade them. They can easily be replaced, Nylander can't be easily replaced.
