This makes sense but it would also pretty much guarantee that the avalanche will get the first pick

18.5 % that it happens though (1/5). I mean, with the way this year has gone for the Senators, it could very much happen. I think DET, VAN, MTL, NYI, NYR, CHI also have a shot at hitting #1 overall. Hell, even EDM and ANA at this point also have a chance at getting it.

But, there is nothing OTT can do to get that pick back unless they trade both Stone and Duchene. Even at that, they could not resign in Colorado. So the risk for Sakic is bigger than just holding on to that pick.
