As much as the value for that trade seems really close the pending UFA in Krug really kind of throws a wrench, especially when we just locked in Hanifin long term for less than Krug is getting now. Krug is a better d man right now and potentially for the entirety of their careers, but to have the security of a sure fire 21 year old top 4 and potentially top 2 d man for under 5 million the next 6 years is really hard to give up. I think Krug's ask next year has to be 7+ and paying Gio almost 7 to deteriorate in the lineup until he is 39 handcuffs more spending on the back end. In my mind Hanifin and Valimaki are set up perfectly to lock down 1 and 2 on the left side of our D core for the next decade if they want to stay.

I really like the trade and lord knows Calgary has probably even checked in to see in the Kenyan goalie is available for trade so Rask would be perfect I just really really struggle with the idea of giving up Hanifin!

Thats what I was thinking about. Would Calgary give up something to get something? Rask is a great goalie but probably will need change of scenery. CGY and BOS seems like good trading partners having history together. Boston is looking for 2RW and Neal is that. The task would be to get Hanifin in that deal. He is great player and he is still insanely young.. departure (again) would be hard but I thought that I would give it a try. i was honestly expecting bad reaction just for dealing Hanifin.. thanks for review! Its nice to see reasonable people in here.

Super tough, especially cause both teams are trying to get to the same place at the same time, both would be hard pressed to give up a part of what they think is a very strong roster. Rask would be ideal for Calgary, can be an elite goalie, a little term to allow the young guys to stay down and not an outrageous salary like Price or what Bob/Varly are looking for. My opinion, for what it's worth, I say no to the trade due to the pending UFA opposed to control over Hanifin but if that is the only thing holding up a trade there are plenty of ways around it and you have clearly created a good base for a conversation here, you also have to keep in mind that my opinion on Hanifin is very biased.

Actually James Neil have no value because of his contract and playtime so I think that trade would make sense
