Why would Florida trade Marc Savard's cap hit which is only 575,000 in real money which helps them get to the cap floor without spending millions?

Flames retain Wideman's cap to equal Savard's, but then can write off $4M in cap space.
Panthers get a servicable D man for one season to bring them up to cap floor until Ekblad's new contract kicks in the following season.

Yes I understand that about the cap hit but Savard's real salary is only 575,000 next season. You may have given the panthers an equivalent cap hit but Widemans real salary for next season is 6 million dollars. I highly doubt the panthers would want that. Savards cap hit helps get them to the floor and only cost 575,000 in real money.

Do a Florida roster, after their signings, they are not near the cap floor. And why take on Wideman...sign a good UFA that you need for similar money if you want.
