Description

I don't think this is a final trade but a starting point for conversations. Neal is having a terrible season and just resigned a long contract that Pit would take risk with. ...PIT did the same with Johnson. Sprong also not having a great start cant beat out other PIT RWs for ice time.
Salary is a different issues, PIT will have some relief by the time Schultz gets back but I'm not going to do those numbers yet.

Yeah, $5,750,000 for 5 years of Neal is not ideal. But it's certainly more preferable than 5 years of Johnson for 3.25. However, teams are unlikely to make deals featuring recently signed guys. Maybe later down the road.

There's also the fact that the Penguins organization kinda **** talked Neal and talked about a culture change when he was traded. It would be fun to see him with Malkin again though.

Johnson is not going to get traded while Rutherford is GM.
