Kapanen has been playing great and getting all this value. So you package him with Zaitsev and only get Stecher and Gagne (AHL player this year). There are much better ways to get rid of Zaitsev.

You can trade him and a pick for a B or C prospect and a worst pick. A floor cap team might even take his contract for a 7th rounder.

The thing is, he is actually a half decent player. The price tag is just a bit high. He is better than the current alternatives so unless you can somehow get a good RH top 4D to replace him its better to just keep him over say Holl.

I don't mind him as a player at all. I just think they have to move him before any young forwards. That is just the business with his cap hit. If he was making less per year, I would keep him in heart beat.
