Krug is the most valuable and most tradeable asset BOS has. Removing Krug from the backend actually improves the D quality in the Bruins own end. People get hung up on Krug's point production, and it is impressive. But, because Krug is a quality player, BOS can expect a quality return. Adding a point producing winger starts to balance out the scoring between the top two lines. I don't think BOS makes it out of the first round with their current scoring distribution. They might not even get into the playoffs. By adding a winger to the second line you improve the output of DK46 as well. Krug also has a team friendly deal at the moment, so any team taking him on is not getting solely a rental, nor are they getting a player who is a cap albatross. BOS is not going to have the cap space to resign Krug at the number he will command after next off season because of the young guys who will be coming due.

That's my opinion.

Listen I get that it balances out your scoring but getting rid of Krug really hurts your PP, hes a top 3 PP QB in the league. I love Gryz and Mcavoy but neither can come close to replacing him on the PP. This trade definetly makes them a better team but youre also giving up your best replacement for Krug when hes probably going to have to leave bc of a big pay raise. I can see them trading Krug in the offseason MAYBE but not now

Krug is consistently a minus defenseman. Did you watch the game last night as well. In overtime he stayed out way too long. He had an opportunity to change and a player was starting to come over the bench to sub for him and he didn’t sub. Instead he tried to get into the play in the rangers zone and because he was so gassed the rangers got a breakaway. He is a defensive liability. Plus everything that MattyB said.
