Initial Creation Date: Feb. 6, 2019

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
According to what Sakic said last night, he will not trade his top picks or his top prospects. So forget about 2019 OTT 1st & COL 1st, and forget all that is called: Makar, Timmins, Jost, Kaut, Bowers and maybe Kamenev. That means that in the roster players everyone should be available except Landy, Mack and Mikko.

Among those I would keep: Soderberg and Calvert. 2 good warriors with hearts and you need guys like that on a lineup.

If Kerfoot, Compher, Nieto and Cole allow you to go for something really interesting on the market, it's a go. Barrie will probably be traded, since Makar will be ready to replace him very soon. I would listen to offers for Erik Johnson too.

Those who have to leave by the trade deadline: Wilson, Nemeth, Andrighetto, Bourque, Varlamov.

I think they have to give a good shot to their kids like Kaut, Greer and even Shvyryov right now and see what they can bring. It cannot be worse than the club on the ice right now.

Haha! Yep it looks like that!! But it's the kind of trade Sakic must try to do. TB and TOR are teams that still in need of a Top-4 RHD to go far in the playoffs in the East and also 2 teams who will have to tweek salaries and assets to be able to sign their young RFA stars (RE: Marner, Point). CAR are close to entering playoffs and it's known that they are looking to boost their offense. If they are willing to sacrifice a very good prospect like Necas for immediate help (Compher and Kerfoot) why not? And speaking of playoffs, do you think Canes are really comfortable to show up at the party with Mrazek and McElhinney in net? Varlamov could be a pretty good insurance policy for them.

So I don't know. Maybe these are not so crazy ideas. I'm not telling you it's going to happen but I think it's a proactive approach and better than the status quo. We trade those who bring us good value in return: Barrie, EJ, Kerfoot, Compher. We don't really touch the "future" here. We trade our pending UFA and we give a fair shot at our kids for the rest of the year. Let's them grow together. Ohhh and you have money for Rantanen and also for a UFA like Stone or Skinner in the summer.

I get where your head's at, but the Tampa and Toronto trades don't "tweek salaries." There's a whole lot of cap going to Toronto, and not much coming back. The Tampa trade is more plausible, but I can't speak to the value. With the Canes, yeah maybe they want Varly, but no chance they give up Necas. Teams don't just give up young prospects for instant insurance anymore, nor should we. Compher and Kerfoot are decent players, and trading them away doesn't do a whole lot.

The Avs most trade-able assets at the moment are Barrie, Soderberg, Varly, Wilson, and Nemeth. They shouldn't look to deal anyone else.
