I agree with Marner and his agent, the Leafs think since Marner is a local Toronto boy he'll gladly take a hometown discount. Meanwhile Dumass probably over paid both Matthews and Nylander by almost 1 million each, so Dumass wants the local hero is take a 2 million discount to make up the difference. Hell NO, Marner at 10+ million!!!!

Why didn't Nylander take 6 million like his closet peers, did he really need another 1 million?

Why does Matthews force the Leafs to make him the 2nd highest paid player despite never winning any real awards or crack the Top Ten? did he really need the extra couple million?

But yes, lets screw the homegrown Toronto boy because he is playing out his childhood dream and should get paid less.

F**k that, Marner should not sign a contract until he gets paid as the highest paid RWer. it's only fair.

Seems like you and I have similar ideas on personnel ... but you're a touch more optimistic on basically all the salaries than I am:

Good news is the difference is made up easily by just using Holl as the bottom RD ... and then possibly looking for an upgrade at the TDL. Also, why did you ditch Gautier as the 4C ... seems like a decent cheap option since improving his footspeed.

1) Nylander's comparables were not $6M ... they were closer to $6.7M/yr ... and the $300k difference is comensurate with the inflation of the cap.

2) Matthews is the most prolific 5v5 goal scorer the league has seen in a LONG time. Marner is a special player, but he plays a less valuable position, and produces less valuable kinds of points (assists).

3) I don't know what you could be looking at in the contract negotiations w/ Tavares, Nylander, and Matthews and be thinking Dubas is out to screw anyone ... he's offered fair value to all of them. The proposed deal in this lineup is a 3 year bridge, and it happens to be projected as the most expensive "bridge" contract in league history, that isn't an insult by any measure. It would mean Marner still has a shot at his $11M/yr on his next contract (which the Leafs could afford b/c Marleau will be off the books). To be fair, I had the contract slightly higher on the 3 year bridge ($8.25M/yr) but that is a minor difference.

Cheers!

I would consider myself as a pro Holl and Goat guy, kind of just wanted to show that there could be options with them on the roster but not in the lineup. I think goats a 4C all day, and I think Holl could easily be a 6th D-man, if Babs gave him a larger sample size.

Man you couldn't have said it better. It really shows the intelligence of some leaf fans (or hockey fans in general) with awful takes like that guy. Nylander's deal at $6.96M is gonna be a huge steal next year and the following 4 years (probably even by the playoffs). Matthews being a top 3 even strength (and 5v5) goal scorer apparently isn't enough for some of these guys. I love Mitch, don't get me wrong, and I hope he gets as much as he can. The problem will never be how much your top 6 forwards make (91, 34, 16, 29, 43, 24, and I would also include AJ) its the bottom six (Patty, Brown, Hyman to an extent although not as bad).

Marner getting the highest AAV on a bridge deal in league history would probably be seen as more of compliment/achievement than an *insult* (lots of sarcasm). Also allows him get a double digit x 8 yrs right after
