This really isn't a bad trade but the Alzner contract kind of ruins it because the Rangers have so many bad contracts on defense they couldn't take another on. But If MTL was interested in Shattenkirk there could certainly be a deal to be made, but I think Bergevin wants to stand pat for the most part.

So... The return for Kreider is not amazing because Shattenkirk has a not great contract, but then NYR are taking on Alzner? No thanks.
