Saw the BOS trade earlier today, figure they give it a go considering they won't get a hell of a lot more for Chiasson at this point PLUS they get out of Brodziak a year sooner.

Rationale for the CBJ trade boils down to Columbus being able to save just a little bit more cap come next season and get out from that $2+M hit a year sooner, helping sign/replace either Panarin or Bobrovsky. Edmonton gets the better player, but eats the higher hit. I'd be willing to toss in a late pick to even it out. Same idea with the Minny trade: with the Suter and Parise contracts getting worse by the day, the Wild need to shed costs somewhere; they free up enough space for an ELC or better depth player and upgrade the Washington pick at the cost of eating Petrovic's money this season and retaining on Foligno. In the end, Foligno costs less against the cap if buried than Manning would, and Nash has a track record of being a genuinely useful NHL player, and is just having a nightmare of a season.

The intention WOULD be to give Stolarz his required 11 starts to reach RFA status; it's easier to make a long-term decision on the guy if you know you have control over his rights past the end of June.
