My thoughts on Ottawa

Created by: deleted_x_t_213213
Team: 2018-19 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 25, 2019
Published: Feb. 25, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Despite the bad deal of trading that pick to Colorado for a questionable character in Duchene, I think Ottawa is on the right track. They have some A prospects in Tkachuk, Chabot, Brannstrom, and Logan Brown, a ton of cap room, and a ton of picks over the next three years with a shot at Lafrieniere next year. They could probably get a first round pick out of Ceci if he agrees in principle with another team to sign a contract. It's going to take a couple of years but with patience, this team will be very good in the future.

As a Wings fan and outsider, I think they did a good job on going full rebuild/firesale at the deadline. I think it would have been a mistake to keep any of Duchene, Stone, or Dzingel. That being said they mismanaged that Duchene situation to an extreme. They banked on being able to resign Karlsson, and failed. I guess its a risk they thought they had to take at the time but damn. It handicapped them hard. Now they are looking at a rebuild that projects them to be competitive in 2023-24ish, as a conservative guess. If they had just sold that year, they could have just gone through a retooling and have been competitive in the next couple years after. Now they have to rely on draft picks panning out, rather than retooling and staying with a Stone, Chabot, Dzingel core.

Well said. I should of said the Karlsson deal with San Jose was horrible, they could and should of gotten alot more back from San Jose or elsewhere.

I actually went back and reread the deal for Karlsson and I have to say, it really isn't a terrible deal if San Jose reaches the cup final this year, and he resigns with Sj. But I agree, its really convoluted and is not good for OTT unless SJ makes it to the finals and Karlsson resigns with them. That could happen though....

With Vegas adding Stone its going to be difficult for San Jose; Tierney is a pretty good player, but if I was the Ottawa GM, I would of asked for Meier instead of the pacakge of players.
