Melnyk saves 1.2M taking two contracts combined for 3.4M. MacArthur likely won't play again while they could still use Brodziak and Manning to reach the cap floor. They could also flip them for late round picks since both are UFA at the end of the year same as MacArthur.

Yeah value probably a tiny bit off for Vatanen but not that far off tbh. I mean for Edmonton, why would you want to take on Macarthur in exchange for guys that could be traded for draft picks?

Good point but I made that trade because its almost a no brainer for Ottawa to save that 1.2M but it'd be harder to find two separate trades for a couple of depth players. I thought it was easier to just package both to Ottawa because I know their owner's a penny pincher. Also I think it'll be hard for someone to want Manning at 2.25M.

Yeah fair enough. Personally I just don't see either team doing it. Ottawa is probably only interesting in taking huge contracts they can be compensated for taking...a good example would be Lucic!
