Description
The Avs have shown that they are competitive the way they are. Why trade the farm and depth that Sakic built? This team is built to grow at this point, so I say let it.

Bringing in a top 6F through UFA might be ruff. Breadman won't come here and Duchess... He had his chance to be with this playoff team. The Islander boys, Pav, Joe, Williams and Dzingel will very likely re-up with their old teams (or some might hang em up). That really only leaves Nyquist and Skinner before the Avs have players that are comparable. They have 40 pt guys or kids that have the potential to be so without the big contracts or term that go with UFA. The Avs could use another shooter more than another passer, so I went with Skinner.

The Avs extend Barrie over the summer 6x7.5 The Avs D is set for most of the next decade. Although, they will have to buy off Seattle with a pick to keep it together. A solid mover and a big bodied stay-at-home on each pair... see it in action in the 2nd round?
Sammy/EJ
Big Z/Barrie
Cole/Makar
Even if the Avs don't extend Barrie, Keep him for the year as the rental that we don't have to give up a first for. Trading him would create a hole that isn't ready to be filled by Timmins.

I resigned Ghetto and Bourque because I know what I'm getting. Nothing flashy but responsible play at an NHL level. This gives the kids a year to grow in the A. Still bring them up for injuries when in Denver, but they don't have to drag em around on road trips to sit in the stands.

Whoever the Avs draft this year, Cozens or Byram, they will spend the year in Loveland so they can get more ice time. Or, I can see them drafting kids already committed to the NCAA, Turcotte, for a year or two of development/delayed entry to the NHL.

We agree pretty much 100% on everything you touched on.
Skinner should be our FA target.
Let the kids grow, i want to see another year of growth from Compher/Jost/Kerfoot.

As for the F lines:
- Lines #1 & #2 are perfect
- I dont see Greer on the third line yet (i wouldnt mind another year or two of Wilson at this spot IF the price is right)
- Kamanev is the starting #4C, Kaut might need another year before jumping up, Jost needs to be on the #3 line next year.

Line #1 - leave as is
Line #2 - leave as is
Line #3 - Jost - Compher - Nieto
Line #4 - Greer (Calvert) - Kamenev - Calvert (Greer/Kaut)

D pairings are fine.
G tandem is fine (maybe sign a Nilsson or Stolarz to a cheap deal if Francouz flops)

I left Kam in the A for the start of the year due to he has missed most of the last 2 years with injuries. Let him get his skates under him again and he'll be the first call up. Greer is a great two-way player and has that big body net presence that the third line needs.

Francouz is rocking it in Loveland. He pretty much has helped carry the Eagles into the playoffs in their first year in the A.

I like your way of thinking. I personally don't think Joe will go for any big names in Free Agency, based on this year's success so far. Regardless of that, I'm pretty sure if Cozens/Byram are drafted, they'll need to make the NHL Roster or be sent back to Junior. They can't be in the AHL. They could play no more than 9 NHL games and still be sent back to Junior though, basically a pro tryout. If not, go back to Junior and tear that **** up again.
Or as you said, draft someone who is committed to NCAA that way they'll play with men their age (a la Cale Makar) and in 1-2 years be extra stud-ish.
