Who would you target in the draft?

That Calgary trade is so lopsided. I guess you figured that the Flames would be willing to take Clarkson's contract if you took enough salary back, but Raymond and Engelland each only have a year left, whereas Clarkson is signed until June of 2020. After that, Dansk, Siebenaler, and the 3rd Overall are not nearly worth Bennett and the 6th Overall.

JacobWallman The amount retained goes through the life of the contract. So in this case the price to move up in the draft is being in possession of the Clarkson contract, Bennett and the 6th OA. But they also get some prospects and a 3rd round pick to even it up. But what you have to realize is that if Calgary does intend to move up they have to give up more than the Jackets. But in the long run it actually evens out.

Wait. You wouldn't take Puljujarvi???????? Are you nuts? You do realize the draft quality takes a bit of a dive after the top 3 right? Matthews, Laine and Puljujarvi are sure things (to be very good players). After that they are very good but not in the same category. Almost every single scout will tell you the top 3 are solidified ahead of everyone else. No upsets here. Drafting someone else would be "getting fired" worthy.
