Embracing the 7th D

Created by: LittleBuddha
Team: 2019-20 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: May 3, 2019

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Skinner is a shooter and the Avs need more of those.

Avs trade another 2nd for a goalie and a cap dump.

The current roster is almost set and Avs can finally draft for depth rather than immediate help. The Avs don't have to rush development. Draft Byram at 4, Kaliyev at 16 and Knight at 27. They stay in Jrs/NCAA for one/two more years

Extend Barrie 6yrs x 7.5 mil.

Bring up some kids. AJ and Kam are both ready to step up into wilson/bassard/ghettos slots. Start Kam in Loveland to get his legs again... He really hasn't played much in two years.

Leave Graves and Timmins in the A to get top minutes. They'll get called up soon enough with injuries - just gives great depth with Mel and Geertsen following them up.

How about embracing the 5 D that San Jose did?

I like where your head is at. I’d change the lines up though. Keep the big line together and have Skinner-Jost-Compher as the second line.

Avs should draft Byram or Turcotte, I really don’t care which one.

Overpaid Mikko maybe 500k.
Your lineups are messed (why is Greer #2 LW over Skinner?)

TBL trade is very interesting.

No chance I pick Byram over Cozens/Turcotte, the Avs need for a high end F is greater than a D if you consider that Girard/Makar/Timmins are 20 and Zadorov is 24...

The line are "messed up" for the same reason that Rants is (was in reality) moved to the second line. To spread the love and show the potential line combos. I'm not being stuck in some cookie cutter, acceptable line-up cliche. I want to win and the lines the way they were didn't do it. Bednar had Wilson/Soda/Rants as second for awhile. With the big body shooter Wilson being replaced by the younger big body shooter AJ. They play basically the same style of game and I am pretty sure he can match or out do Wilsons production for the year at about 3mil less.

If I was picking... Turcotte - Byram -Cozens, all depending on CHI pick. But in this dream...

Your right. the immediate need for the Avs is a top 6 F. They are not going to get that "immediate" help/need met from the draft. We will not see the 4th pick for 2-3 years and by that time I see a hole on the LD developing.

I was looking at the lines as 1 - 2a - 2b, so they could just roll. They both could be listed as "second." The 4th is on the fly situational. I just liked the combos - A is a big line that would be hard to push around (something that SJS, and Nash last year, did far to much) and B is just a fast, skilled buzzsaw. I'm with you on the draft. Both would be great to have, neither is coming up for immediate help.

Greer on the second line (above Skinner) is still wrong regardless of how you twist it.
You also have no #4C

I think no 4C was intentional to roll out an extra defenseman and give the studs more playing time. With the fitness and endurance of modern hockey players, it wouldn’t surprise me to see teams rolling 3 lines only and have the extra guys on the bench be situational players. (PK, faceoff stud, etc)

The Avs did it for most of the last month of the season.
