I have seen M. Jones listed as a popular buy out on this site (probably anger Shark fans looking for someone to blame) but if the Sharks GM wants to move him than the Oilers should be all over him. Koskinen will always be a back up NHL goalie (co starter for 30-35 games at best).

Why would they buy out Jones or even trade him? Who do they have in net that could replace him, unless they go after a FA? Ya I would be all over him if I was Ken Holland, but I believe a lot of other GMs would be too.

why reach? This team isn't even close to being a real contender for a cup.
4 million and a 2nd for Johnsson. He's a bit player. There is no reason to act desperate.
Best thing this team can do is be patient. Draft well, let it's scouts pour through the FA market in europe, canada and NCAA and be prudent in it's FA signing choices.
You aren't going to win a cup next year, and the goal isn't to simply make the playoffs.

The title is a step in the right direction. The Oilers have a player like Connor McDavid and they should be "re-tooling" and not doing a full blown tank. I think Andreas Johnsson could be the best skater on Toronto and would excel with a player like McDavid. The teams max would be a 2nd wild card for this upcoming year, but at the same time, why not give it a try?

Considering the Blues went from worst in the NHL to Western Conference Champs in a short 6 month span and Vegas went from Expansion team to Western Conference Champs in a 10 month span the previous year, than I'd say the Oilers can easily be Cup contenders next year if luck, management and skill goes their way.
