Could you imagine the Leafs matching anything that doesn't net them four first rounders.

I could imagine them in major cap hell after matching a 10.5 offer and now having 3 players making 10+ all on offense

How are you going to aquire Trouba after oversheeting marner? You need to have the picks to submit an offersheet.

The Leafs are not in cap hell with a 10.6m Marner. They will be over the cap by about 6.75 when all their RFAs are signed but have some high priced assets that can be traded. No different than Tampa, Jets, maybe the Sharks and Penquins. Then there is always the distinct possibility that some teams are not as as attractive to Marner to sign with and he would sign for the Leafs for a lesser amount.

Nico's contract is too low, I imagine 8x$8m at least. You've still got the cap room though.

I just don’t think it would be too smart for the leafs to
have 3 10+million dollar players all on offense. Tampa is different because of taxes and Winnipeg will not be able to keep all those players either. I’m sure big changes are coming for all the teams you listed

Taxes. Always seem to be a big on on CapFriendly. Never an issue for Raptors and Blue Jays. If you think players pay the personal tax rates as posted then you have point.
I while I think Marner and Matthews are overpaid if three players make 34m, I agree with that is top heavy. Your top 3 Isles over 27m, which is getting closer to top heavy too. Heck the last place Kings top three next seasons almost 28m. It seems to be the trend right or wrong.

Top three is definitely top heavy on both, but you also have Nylander making a pretty penny. That’s close to half the cap on 4 players all on offense.

Much to chagrin of fellow Leaf fans, I think Nylander should be traded this summer for cap reasons. And it might just be a modest return of picks/prospects.

Agreed Nylander and/or Kadri should be moved. Teams will take advantage of the Leafs situation for sure.

There are "lots'" of teams that will trying to dump cap in order to sign their younger players. IMO it's going to be a buyers market. Some teams with cap space should be able to pick some good veterans on short term contracts at a very small trade cost this summer.

I think the Devils are in a good position this summer. Marner was by far a long shot lol. Having the first pick should be attractive to some players though. Defensive upgrade is a must though
