Hayes It Is

Created by: HarterCart79
Team: 2019-20 Philadelphia Flyers
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 4, 2019

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Make Hayes your 2C, and drop him down the lineup as he gets surpassed by the likes of Patrick and Frost (if Frost plays C in the NHL). Won't go more than 5 years because we have the talent in the organization to make him expendable. Would have preferred a Kadri-type, 2-3 years left on a contract, but overall I'm happy with the move and the Flyers are better now than they were game 82 last year.

Brown covers a W spot for this season, allowing for Farabee/Frost/Ratcliffe to develop in the AHL and have an open roster spot next season.

Personally I like Hayes as the 2C, he's a huge center who plays a 200 ft game. Can play pk and pp and is flexible to play wing. I think best case scenario he gets 6x6 as that's what Nelson got

I don't not like the acquisition. I think he is a good fit and they needed 2C. I just wonder if we go Vet heavy this offseason acquiring or signing guys with 4,5 or 6 year terms, what is the point of having great prospects waiting in line? Morgan Frost and Farabee and Ratcliffe can't all play in the AHL for the next 6 years, and they're not playing 4th line minutes in the NHL. So I just think the more bodies come in long term from outside, the more the writing is on the wall for dealing somebody like Konecny, Voracek, JVR, who knows. They've gotta make room for these guys at some point

I agree on all those points. Maybe it will be a 3-4 year deal and it wouldn’t be so bad. If he signs for 6x6 then that will eventually be an expensive 3rd or 4thline center once those young guys get a shot.

That’s why I thought Kadri would be a good fit for Philly. Dirt cheap contract for a temporary 2C that can put up 20-30 goals, especially with those Philly linemates. Can be easily shed if Frost develops into a 3C before the 3 years is up. Surely Nolan will be a legit 2C by then and having a 4.5m contract on the third line isn’t as crippling as a 6.

There's no such thing as having to many good players though. Right now the Flyers don't have the quality to compete hard. Presuming we actually sign Hayes it really strengthens a lot down the middle. Giroux can play wrong permanently and that's a big win. If Frost, Farabee, and Ratcliffe show they are good enough they'll get time. Injuries happen. It's not too hard to move out a good player later on. Maybe in a year or two the Flyers move out JVR or even Lindblom. Perhaps Voracek with some retained salary for one of the ELC contract guys.

Having to move out good players to accommodate good younger players is better than not signing good players because your prospects might want that slot in a year or two.

While I love the kids we have (especially the three you mentioned) it's dangerous to hope that they all pan out. Fletcher had an opportunity to make his team better today and he took it. I'd rather him do that then to hope these kids work out. Like someone else mentioned, injuries happen and who knows what happens in 2,3,4,5 or 6 years. Players could play their way out of the lineup or could have career ending injuries. Who knows. All I can say is I am happy to see Chuck is willing to do what it takes to be better today
