Description

So if you've missed it, a reporter for the Ottawa Sun is saying Karlsson wants/hopes for competitive offers from the Sens (WTF?) and the Habs (yah?) because his wife is homesick. Okay, I buy that. Happy spouse, happy house.

But how the hell do you make that work? Maybe if he takes a discount?

If you land EK, you move Petry for a LHD anywhere you think you can get a top 4 guy in return. I picked the Flyers because they were the first team to come to mind.

I would also consider packing up one of Shaw, Bryon or Armia if I thought I could get a UFA winger upgrade with the saved cash.

Montreal was likely thrown in there as a negotiating tactic to drive up price from Sens... But its fun to pretend like there is a real chance.

Honestly, I'd prefer to add any number of other guys first - Duchene, Nyquist, Eberle, Panarin, Skinner (in no particular order). But if he comes knocking how do you not at least look?
And Petry would get a good return in trade so if you save salary there. . . .

No, the biggest knock on this comes with what happens 2 seasons out when all the RFAs are looking for a raise and you need to resign some UFAs too and suddenly there is no cap room and Karlsson's knees look like they're made of modeling clay.
