Varly for 8 years? i bet he stays healthy for less than half of that. He needs to prove he can still play consistently and stay healthy before you hand him the rest of his career.

Hamonic needs to be traded? for a poor mans Bennett and a pick? Shedding less than 4 million in cap doesn't really accomplish a ton and serviceable is a wild understatement on Hamonic. Brodie, who would be considered "serviceable" in a top 4, costs more, plays a similar game to the young guys coming up so why would you not get rid of him and his nearly 5 million? Hamonic's game is more maintainable than Brodie who no longer is unique in a league full of good skating defense men.

I don't like the value on the Frolik trade. The rights to a goalie who lost his starting job and a 6th are not worth it for the Flames who are going for a long playoff run next year. The trade also doesn't save any cap space as you turn around and give Varlamov a long term deal well above his market rate if you see Frolik as a cap dump. If we are moving Frolik for a platoon goalie and a pick, we could send him to Florida for Reimer and as high as a second rounder given Frolik's performance at the WC's and Reimer's shaky play last year.

I also don't like the idea of sending a guy that is a pain in the butt to play against to a division rival. If we are looking to move him for a third line forward and a pick, I think the Jets are a better trade partner as they could lose both Myers and Trouba this off season and have a number of good young players that could fit the third line spot you have Virtanen in (Roslovic, Appleton).
