Why does Ottawa trade for MacDonald? The draft picks are almost meaningless. Yes he helps them reach the cap floor but his salary is actually more than his cap hit. Ottawa would look for players with higher cap hits than dollars to hit the cap floor. MacDonald is not a player they take unless there's a meaningful asset coming with him.

I saw your last post and get what you're saying about giving OTT incentive to take MacDonald. The way I see it, I'd offer as high as a 4th rounder for them to take it. The team is rumoured to be quiet this offseason, and are in the brink of a rebuild. To me, giving them a contract like AMac, who has only a year left at $5M, gives them some veteran XP on D, good model for the kids, and you get him off the books after this year when they're ready to make some serious acquisitions. I'm being extremely positive here, I understand there has to be some incentive, but if it were to be too much (like giving up Laughton) then I'd just bury him for the year.

ive been thinking the same thing. amac does actually have value. im fine with him being our first d out of the press box for 2m a year honestly, but i think he could fit in very well on ottawa for at least a year or two and i think they're the kind of team that could really use his presence.
