Lets get creative - Sens Blockbuster

So, I think the Lucic for Eriksson trade is inevitable...

Beyond that, I've been thinking about the stoopid oilers cap space/lack of depth problem. How about a blockbuster trade with Ottawa?

We know Melnyk is cheap, and he has a couple guys he is paying big bucks to not play in MacArthur and Gaborik. They are both on LTIR and will not count against the cap. If the cap floor is projected to be $60M, the Sens are about $13M short right now.

The Sens swap is a blockbuster, but addresses both team's short and long term needs. Oil will pay a hefty price in real $$ to buy cap space in this scenario. They also get a useful player in Pageau, while taking back a bad Bobby Ryan contract (but at least it's in a position of need). Melnyk the cheapskate saves alot of real money and doesn't pay for players not to play. In big picture, Gagner is off the books in 1 yr, Sekera in 2 and Eriksson in 3. EDM actually pays out more cash over the following three years than OTT. Any of them can also be bought out. Sens also get picks and prospects for the rebuild - Bear is NHL ready. Other prospects could be thrown in from the reserve list as well. I would also consider swapping firsts this year too (8 to 19).

I think the Jets deal makes sense too, as Roslovic and JP both want to move on. Adding Khaira here, as he's the type of player Jets like, and is cheap. JP gets to play with Laine again, and this is the best possible landing spot for JP to become what he was drafted to be. Both teams take a chance here. Not sure if this gets it done, but Oil could add/sub another piece the Jets need - like Benning to replace the departing Trouba at RHD?

Thoughts???

The trick the Sens and the 'Yotes use is add injured players but place them on the IR instead of LTIR and claim their salary cap hit but the actual cash is so much smaller (I half expect that Flo trades Bobby Lou to a bottom feeder team to use his IR status to boost their Salary Cap Hit and that the Panthers will sign Brobobski).

The Gaborik and MacArthur contracts are insured: Melnyk isn't paying a dime for them. So in reality, you're asking a known cheapskate to swap $10.325M of Pageau and a bad contract for $14.75M of purely bad contracts. I don't think Bear, a 2nd, a 3rd, and an AHL journeyman are compensation enough for that.

Nevermind that Eriksson likely isn't waiving his NTC to come to Edmonton.
