Younger Core

Created by: Billy739
Team: 2019-20 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 18, 2019
Published: Jun. 18, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Drouin and Ehlers have established chemistry from Junior i'm hoping to spark .

Lemieux and Armia briefly played together in WPG and Manitoba Moose .

Byron and Shaw with Mitchell were part of that 10 game win streak to open the season and produced consistently . they were broken up when Pacioretty was demoted while Byron was promoted to join him and Danault on third line .

it seems to me these youth pieces could grow together into a unit worth a cup as long as keep drafting strong .

MTL uses their 2019 two 1st and 2nd to draft Ralphie Lavoie , Ryan Suzuki and Alex Vlasic

Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Ehlers, Nikolaj
  2. 2019 5th round pick (PHI)
WPG
  1. Tatar, Tomas ($1,000,000 retained)
  2. 2019 3rd round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
WPG get Tatar @ 3.8m for 2 years .Tatar is an extremely fast paced top 6 forward with a history of consistent goal scoring coming off Career high's this season
2.
MTL
  1. Crouse, Lawson [RFA Rights]
  2. Joseph, Pierre-Olivier
Additional Details:
ARZ LD depth is as stacked as MTL but their RD is 31-33 years old or a hailmary Undrafted Free agent from a european league/NCAA that is a 2-3 year project .

MTL has RD depth to excess where a guy like Fleury 1st year Pro became the top RD on Laval having a great rookie season without 1 call up because Petry and Weber dont get scratched for rookies to get their feet wet .

Crouse is a good hitter but he's a bottom 6 career guy who's main use is his Size/Physicality and his ability to take punishment infront of the net .
ARI
  1. Fleury, Cale
  2. Lehkonen, Artturi
  3. 2019 5th round pick (ARI)
  4. 2020 4th round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
Grabbing Lehkonen gives ARZ a skilled two way middle 6 winger who has a history of Producing when playing with chucky . (Chucky/Lehkonen lead us to our last playoff with Lehkonen scoring 11pts ,6 goals in 12 games while chucky had 3 OT gwg playing with Lehkonen )

Lehkonen traditionally covered the defensive weakness's on Galchenyuks line while cycling out pucks for Chucky. Lehkonen's early season injury left Chucky and Drouin alone with no one covering their defensive flaws and both players were massacred by the media and fans .

Lehkonen will never be an all star but he can be the guy who anchor's them and provide's consistent defensive play on special teams and even strength . he's a solid 2nd/3rd line center and a step up from Crouse .

Fleury isnt a potential #2 D like JPO will be in MTL by proxy, but Fleury is a consistent player who bare's a lot of similarities to Jeff Petry's game making him a solid 2nd pair RD for a team with none under 30 .
3.
MTL
  1. Lemieux, Brendan [RFA Rights]
  2. Smith, Brendan
Additional Details:
-NYR get a younger Grit guy with more size and reach.
-NYR get a 2nd line AHL Swedish Center another year away from being adjusted to North American Ice . (at his best he's a 3rd line NHL center but could just as easily be a Chaput type bouncing back and forth between leagues )

NYR clears some cap incase they go all in on Panarin who seems to favor NYR as just like when he came from the KHL he visited 3 teams only , all original 6 franchises as he loves playing in a big hockey market .
NYR
  1. Crouse, Lawson
  2. Vejdemo, Lukas
Additional Details:
-MTL gets a usable replacement for Jo Benn as bottom pair/7th D .

-MTL gets a Grit edge guy ready for a playoff push now

The Rangers need a young gritty guy like Lemieux also going forward. They'll just buyout Staal and/or bury Smith in the minors to create cap space.

i just took lemieux because it seemed cheaper then landing Crouse as well as Lemieux's more of a fighter then Crouse which is what i wanted .
given how many UFA's you got next season and the likely hood of you re-signing them slim i kinda figured if you'd go younger given you're 2-3 years from completing your youth core overhaul . (then again the idea of NYR building on youth is a foreign concept in my lifetime , i just kinda assumed they would go full overhaul to avoid another for a decade or 2 )

They should be ok, with all the RFA contracts they'll still have, plus Lundqvist will be expiring soon and afrer this year they won't sign any big UFAs for awhile.
