I don't think you get both Hamilton and Pesce. They also likely wouldn't be wanting Zaitsev.

You Gut their defence and take a soli forward, while forcing Zai on them... Yeah not happening. 4 1st for a team looking to go deep in the playoff each year is much less to pay than destroying a solid team

I'd much rather give my 4 mid to late firsts than Hamilton Teravainen and Pesce while having to take Zaitsev's cap. It's not even close honestly.

Not getting anything for marleau. Need to add a high prospect or a high pick to get rid of him.

Mid to late? Carolina is not going to be that good for that long. Goaltending is a huge question mark. FA defenseman could be leaving shortly. No confidence in this team making the playoffs for the next 4 years.

But they're not finishing bottom 5 imo. Too solid on the backend. Pesce and Hamilton are studs. You'd be lucky to get 2 of them with those 4 firsts. And that's without even mentioning Teravainen or taking Zaitsev into account. Easy move for Carolina, but he probably wouldn't sign an offer sheet there in all honesty.

Carolina isn't exactly a team that likes spending money to begin with. And with Aho commanding 9+ this year... to add another guy at 9+ doesn't seem like something they would be interested in at all as an organization...

The thing is age and contract situation come into play. Hamilton is a UFA in 2 years and can just walk vs. a guy on ELC with 3++ years of control.

You're right here. I wasn't necessarily saying Carolina should do it, but the players listed are worth more than 4 firsts. Honestly, if they don't sign him I see Marner getting traded. And it will be for a package with a value greater than 4 firsts, just not the one listed above.

Fair point. I hadn't thought a ton on that, but I still don't think it equals out.

Honestly, IMO that's the best case scenario at this point...

No chance he stays if he reportedly turned down 11 right?

I like him fine but he's definitely not Matthews or Tavares. I'd be worried he passes Tavares in the near future though. Not sure it's likely.

Offer him 4 or 5 years, wont cost 4 1sts and forced Toronto into a tough spot with shorter term

If it's over 10.4 million cap hit it will cost 4 1sts. And if its under 10.5 cap hit Toronto would match. Easily. What you hvae outlined is not forcing toronto into a tough spot at all.

Having marner sign for 4 years is not ideal

never said it was. Just correcting your mistake on saying "it's not 4 1st rounders if its only 4 years" because it is. Unless its 4 years at less than 10.5 in which case the Leafs easily match, as I have already said.
