Trading Dillon and Melker

Description
Buffalo is possibly using a buyout on Scandella so there could be a spot open for Dillon. Dillon is extremely underrated and his contract still goes on for one year at really low value for what he brings on the ice. This trade works for both sides. It would certainly help San Jose's own off-season with the cap situation. San Jose and Buffalo have been trade partners before. Why not again!

Melker would work really well for Chicago. But not at $2M cap hit. That's why 25% of his cap hit is retained. Chicago needs experience on their depth and defensive game. Melker is a beast on PK. Sure, his point production hasn't gone off the roof but he's solid.

Pominville from Buffalo should be really servicable winger in the 4th line with inexpensive cap hit. He can still be a 25-35 point producer — even being on the older side. But that's normal in San Jose.

Not bad but why Pominvile and why is Gambrell on the 2nd line over Labanc? Gambrell has never even scored in the regular season, he is nowhere near ready for top six minutes. Marleau and Pominville takes time away from our young guys that need a chance like True and Chekhovich. I really hope Doug avoids veterans like patty and pominville.

I am not as hopeful about Sharks org prospects like Chekhovich and True jumping to the main team already. Or not at least just yet. Chekhovich is turning into a full-time pro next season and I'd like to see him get used to that first. It's the same with Chmelevski. Then again, if they can show next week and during the training camp later this summer/early fall that they have what it takes to make the jump, I'm more than happy to prefer taking them first over Pominville. Then again, I think True is pretty close to making the main team. That would slot him as the 4th line and Goodrow would be the right winger then. And I like Goodrow as a winger. But even if Pominville didn't join the team, there would still be the question about who takes the last right winger slot. I do think Gambrell is the closest one but I do hope a prospect like Chmelevski could be it. That would allow slotting Gambrell as the 4th line C.

If we're trading Melker Karlsson,I don't think anything needs to be retained. He is a PK specialist a solid defensive forward.

Yeah, I bet we can trade him and not retain his salary. I just don't know if the return of the trade is then 4th rounder or lower. That was my reasoning.

Then again, why make a trade-off for a higher draft pick when Sharks draft best with 6th and 7th rounders. tears of joy
