Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 23, 2019
Published: Jun. 23, 2019

Description
Now I think this is realistic, but most ideas thrown out here are pooped on......

Foward core intact. Blueline seems shored up imo. I think it works.

Trades
1.
TOR
  1. Demers, Jason ($1,700,000 retained)
ARI
  1. Brown, Connor
  2. Timashov, Dmytro
Additional Details:
Given the return on Subban, I surely can't be too far off here. Yotes need offense, and Brown can be a solid secondary player. Timashov has potential as well.

Demers it seems could be had given the Yotes depth on the RD. See Lyubushkin.... who it seems the Yotes wanna play.

Real question here is Tymashov worth $2 million a year over 2 years? Is Brown being younger make it palpable as well? Does a pick need to be included? I think not, but open to debate.
2.
TOR
  1. 2020 3rd round pick (ANA)
Additional Details:
Ducks blueline is thinner than thin beyond the top 3. Being a budget team, FA probably isn't something that fixes that issue. Being a budget team, maybe $4.5 million is too rich, but cap certainty for a budget team has to figure into some thinking. In Anaheim, I think Zaitsev fits into a role more suited to his skill set.

Explaining the Leafs side is moot I think lol

Lol, 8 goal Brown should really help turn Arizona into an offensive force.

Brown scored 20 a couple seasons ago with an increased role. The player is there, just not in Toronto. Think he sees that opportunity in Arizona.

Think Marc Savard as a Flame. As a Ranger he had game. In Calgary he sucked balls. The day he becomes a Thrasher he is a point per game player. Same as when he went to Boston.

Good player. Wrong situation.

Fair point. He has scored 20, so potential is there. And the return coming back is nothing huge so trade does seem reasonable. However Toronto still needs to tread lightly with the cap, not sure if Demers would be the return they would be looking for. They still have some work to do with their defense, it will be a juggling act for them to improve the back end while moving out Zaitsev and staying cap compliant, I am not sure they are going to accomplish all 3 things at the same time (improve D, move Zaitsev, cap compliant).

No doubt it's gonna be tough. Way I am am looking at the Leafs blueline next year is a series of bandaid solutions. Nothing major going into the Seattle expansion draft. Having Reilly, Dermott, Sandin and Liligren as 4 of 6 in 20-21 looks kinda sexy. Just how the hell to get there.
