Keeping some flexability for Holland

Created by: Sandman
Team: 2019-20 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 23, 2019
Published: Jun. 23, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
A couple multi team trades but gives flexibility to signe RFAs down the road and trade veterans on last year for picks or prospects.

Copied Toronto & Colorado trades from Bluetomorrow83 because I like it. Colorado wants mid 6 fwd and it gets Edm that for a trade.

With Vancouver a D prospect. I am thinking Bear or Jones I don't know which is better for a trade as a sweetner. Ryan supposedly summers in the west so he might approve the trade and Edm needs salary retained is why a 1st rounder protected.

Goalie one year to see if someone from the Minors can be backup in 2020-21 season. Brodziak, Gagner, Russell, and Sekera still can be traded for cap space and a spot for a AHL player, but are good for experience. Give AHL players time to see if they can reporduce last season before call up. If can't sign Perry then sign Pirri or Chiasson.

The issue with this is not the players that are being dealt, its just that three-way deals are extremely rare in the NHL. There have only been 4 three-way deals done since the 2011-12 season and only one of which had anything significant being moved (that being the duchene deal).

In theory they should happen more but, its extremely difficult for GM's to get them done because the middle team in the deal always need to be getting a big sweetner from the other two participating parties who don't want to be getting rid of more than they have to. A big deterrent for them now is that duchene deal cause colorado was the middle man and got a ridiculous haul as a result. So thinking that 2 three-way deals could happen with one team in a single year is just not realistic in the slightest

True 3 way deal is probably not the right term. Flipping players is more accurate. If the first part of trades with Toronto and Vancouver only happen it still wouldn't be that bad but then there would be cap issues.
