You have to give something to get a ride to the Russell contract, 2 years at 4M as cap dump. Ouellet and Peca aren't cap dump.

Let me explain something... Oeullet is 700K and plays in AHL... HE ISN'T a CAP DUMP. Peca is 1.3M, he can play in AHL for a relief cap of 1.05M, so his NHL cap become 250K. At this price, HE ISN'T A CAP DUMP, MTL is a rich team... Russell is huge overpaid at 4M, he has a negative value because he plays like a 1 or 2M but he has 2 years of contract at 4M... Do you understand?

so why not just offer sheet Bennett? call up Benson and run Kassian on the top line for another year? you could offer jp for sb as well and they might get it but no way trading sam for neal is a good deal. a Russel trade is pointless this year unless you can fill the 2nd rd position with a short term contract that's a improvement over him. Move him next year when he has a year left on his contract and his bonus is paid and your young guys have proven they can bat that high up in the lineup.

Edmonton isnt going to outbid for an RFA, Kassian should not be on the top line, and you could argue Benson is ready, thats up to Edmonton's staff

Calgary will have zero cap space after they sign Tkachuk and are vulnerable to a offer sheet even with Edmonton's limited cap space
