Hall and Zucker would be nice Adds

Description
This is a would't that be nice scenario, not a I think NJD or MIN would make this trade scenario. It's very unlikely to every happen, but there's been rumors about all of these in some form so why not have some fun dreaming.

Heres the thinking:
1) Gaudreau with his contract holds the most value in the NJD trade. A 1 for 1 Hall / Gaudreau trade is a no from Calgary, NJD have to add. They would only do this if they don't think they will resign him next year. The 'add' is taking on the Neal contract - which NJD may feel is a good risk for a bounce back year. To take on that salary, NJD will want to send salary back, hence Andy Greene. Stone is a good cheap 3 pair defender that can jump into the top 4 if needed at at 2MM for 1 year is a great deal and good replacement for Greene.

2) The Frolik / Zucker trade almost happened. Revisit it with a Kylington and the upgrade of a 2nd to a 1st for Min.

3) Hamonic would love to be in Winnipeg and Winnipeg would love to have Hamonic. Roslovic and a 2nd seems like the right value assuming Hamonic is signed to an extension.

Logic Flaws:
1) Maybe I am undervaluing Hall, but with only 1 year left, a huge contract likely, and injury risk, I don't know.
2) I may be over-valuing Neal. But if NJD think that last year was just a blip on an otherwise great career due to a poor team/player fit (my take on it) then this could be a great get.

  1. Greene, Andy
  2. Hall, Taylor
Additional Details:
Hall agrees to sign an extension with Calgary before the trade for $11MM for 6 years.
NJD
  1. Gaudreau, Johnny
  2. Neal, James
  3. Stone, Michael ($1,500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Gaudreau with his contract/term is the most valuable piece in this trade. Neal with his contract/term is the least valuable piece.
Trading green's cap for 1 year for Neals cap for 4 years helps to offset the value between Hall and Gaudreau. Stone at 2MM is a great replacement for Greene and brings the value almost in line.

Roslovic isn't that valuable. He's been pretty underwhelming professionally and is running out of time.

I think CGY would be idiots for even thinking of trading Gaudreau. Not because Hall isn't as good or better or whatever. But because getting a 100 pt player at 6.8M is as good as winning the lottery. Even if Hall is "better", he's older, he'll cost more to keep and he's injured juts as often if not more than JG. Gaudreau for Hall is a lateral move AT BEST regardless of whose a better player.

Hey CGY, maybe you should look into finally getting a top flight 1A goalie and throw in some better depth in the lineup before deciding to trade one of their best assets.

Gaudreau had a bad playoff. So did Kucherov. TB ain't looking to trade him are they?

Great points @F50marco and to be honest, I completely agree. I would rather have Gaudreau as well, and his contract is just icing. I don't even think Gaudreau had that bad of a playoffs, he got chances. It was the rest of the team that didn't do much and Gaudreau carried a lot of the weight. I was just playing around with scenarios based on the rumor Calgary is considering an offer around the two. If it did happen I suspect there would be more to the story (A requested trade).

My first wish was for Lehner this offseason and seeing how that played out I'm a little surprised it. He's a FA next year and Calgary will have a better idea of what Rittich is and Talbot as well. If neither take a step, then maybe we swing for Lehner next year in FA.
F50marco liked this.
