Correct me if I'm wrong but Rantanen would be a UFA when that contract is done yeah? That's at the same time MacKinnon will need a new contract. MacKinnon and Rantanen UFA at the same time. That could use up to 30 million in cap space at that time... crazy... Don't wanna end up like the BJ's (sad emoji)
Idk I'm torn. I feel like we should sign Rantanen to Max term or 3 years so he's a RFA at that point and we could get something for him. Mac over rants imo.

IMO what Bergevin did to Carolina was more that just a simple offer sheet, the term takes Aho to UFA status which was intentional and forces Carolina's hand with potentially losing him at terms end. The 4yr deal gives term and good cap for both team and player and allows Rants to get that big payday with a bigger salary cap in 23-24, I agree with your issue of having Mack and Rants both expiring at the same time, but rants will be RFA for more leverage to Colorado.
