That would be a very bad message for the fans to sign a 36 year old player.

That's true, but overpaying Pominville isn't the best option. Move Suzuki to wing and it's set

Gives Mtl prospects time to adapt in the AHL. That will save them a couple of early concusions. No rush to move Suzuki in the NHL. This is why I like the Pominville one year contract.

What is the problem of overpaying when you have cap space.
