Description

IMO.... the rangers should be avoiding any buyouts that would add dead cap space into future years when they will be contending. It makes absolute no sense to buyout Shattenkirk. A couple reasonable trades I believe can help relive the cap squeeze this year. Keep Strome in case Chytil struggles as the 2C, and trade him during the year at the TDL. Not ideal having $113k in cap space...but better than dead cap in future years

Its always good to use other cap strapped teams to fix your cap problems lol

Sharks have the cap room and assets for Namestnikov if they wanted him, but I'm not sure he's worth $4mm with his previous best season being 48P in 81GP while benefitting from top six minutes with incredible players. Last season with the Rangers he had 31P in 78GP, which is much more in line with his actual ability. On the Sharks he's probably a 40 point guy, so I could see them offering a higher pick to get ~800k retained.

I think it's a good spot for him. He's only a 1 year commitment, and I think for a better return the rangers would be open to retaining some salary.
