NJ Currently has 18 million dollars in cap space. Taylor Hall will probably have his salary increase between 5 and 6 million more than this coming year (11 or 12 million AAV). Which means NJ is going to have literally no issues with the cap. Massive underpayment on Calgary’s part. As much as I would cry tears of joy to see Hall in a flames jersey, I’d say he stays with the devils

Sure but maybe he doesn't want to stay

That’s a big maybe. Also, Hall is worth more than Hanifin and a first, even without the Frolik salary dump

Unless Chiarelli becomes GM of NJ, then the trade is Hall for Hanifin, one for one awesome face

Going rate for elite pending UFA's was somewhat set last off season. I expect a Hall trade would be near to what Karlsson got (two young decent roster players (who took big steps in Ottawa actually), two prospects, a first, conditional first on re-signing). I don't think the Flames should pay a huge price as they already have one of the best sets of top LW's in the game. Perhaps Hanifin, Bennett, Dube, 1st gets NJ to consider but again, its a price I don't think the Flames should pay.

Biggest problem here, IMO, isn't whether Hall would go, (also would cry tears of joy to see him in Calgary), or what the trade should be or how much. The scary things to do this is you lose one of your top 3, maybe top two young defensemen, with huge upside for the future, big talented, hockey IQ, attitude, and keep Hamonic and Brodie on expiring contracts with the potential to get nothing in return for them when they go UFA next year. Hanafin, Valimaki, Andersson are 3 of our top 4 D for the future the way they are progressing. I would actually go with trading Johnny or Monny + for Hall before I did this. Monny + pick or prospect for Hall, or Hall and mid to late pick/medium level prospect for Johnny. With Hall you get scoring, a gritty edge, bigger, and home town boy over a whinny hand waiving baby (love the points but his antics and crying are getting too much). Also why do you think JG doesn't have a letter on his chest yet? Because he isn't a leader.

Trade Frolik and either Brodie/Hamonic, buyout Stone etc. There is plenty for next year to pay Hall.

Yeah. The Karlsson trade is a damn good benchmark.
