Team: 2019-20 Dallas Stars
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 20, 2019

Description
This is assuming Dallas just completely falls apart this season, and they need to start the rebuild by selling at the trade deadline.

**TRADE DEADLINE VALUES ARE ASSUMING THE FULL 2019-2020 SEASON POINT TOTALS**

Radulov - 75 points - Team needing top-line help

Perry - 45 points - Team needing middle-6 help & postseason experience

Cogliano - 20 points - Team needing help on the PK & postseason experience

Comeau - 20 points - Team needing help on the PK

**DEFENSEMAN VALUES ARE BASED ON WHERE THEY WOULD SLOT INTO A LINEUP**

Polak - 6th/7th defenseman

Sekera - Bottom pairing defenseman

Trades
1.
DAL
  1. 2020 4th round pick (NJD)
NJD
  1. Honka, Julius [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Traded prior to the 2019-2020 season
2.
DAL
  1. Beauvillier, Anthony [RFA Rights]
  2. Wahlstrom, Oliver
  3. 2020 1st round pick (NYI)
  4. 2021 2nd round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
**2021 2nd Round Pick Condition**

If the Islanders make the Stanley Cup Final in 2019-2020 OR 2020-2021, the 2021 2nd Round Pick turns into a 1st Round Pick
NYI
  1. Radulov, Alexander
Additional Details:
Radulov was a PPG player last season (72 points in 70 games), and has posted back-to-back 70 point seasons. If the Islanders are in a wild-card spot, or if they are on the playoff bubble, Radulov gives them an edge on just about every team they are going up against. He immediately slots on to the Isles top-line and gives them that extra push to find their way into a playoff spot.

He is also under contract for the two years following the 2019-2020 season, meaning that he's not just a rental, and can be a part of the Islanders top-6 for the next 2+ years.
3.
DAL
  1. 2020 2nd round pick (FLA)
  2. 2021 3rd round pick (FLA)
Additional Details:
**2020 2ND ROUND PICK CONDITIONS**

If Perry plays in 50% of the Panthers postseason games, and Florida makes it to the Conference Semi-Finals, the Stars receive Florida's 2020 1st Round Pick instead of the 2nd Round Pick
FLA
  1. Perry, Corey
Additional Details:
Assuming Perry proves last season was just an injury-plagued fluke of a season, he could turn back into a 20-goal player. He's not going to put up the 70 point seasons he did when he was younger, but he provides a good scoring touch for a middle-6 winger.

He also brings a good amount of postseason experience to a young roster that doesn't have much postseason play on their resume.
4.
DAL
  1. McKenzie, Skyler
  2. 2020 3rd round pick (WPG)
WPG
  1. Cogliano, Andrew
Additional Details:
Cogliano isn't going to bring a ton of points to the Jets roster, but he is a speedy forechecker, who specializes on penalty kill.

If Winnipeg is competing in the West, and they still have a bottom-10 PK, they could use a strong bottom-6 player that could provide a boost to their special teams.
5.
DAL
  1. Hugo Has, Martin [Reserve List]
  2. 2020 3rd round pick (WSH)
WSH
  1. Comeau, Blake
Additional Details:
Similar to the Cogliano trade, Comeau isn't going to bring game-breaking point totals to the bottom-6, but he's a very smart forward in his own end and gives Washington a strong PK specialist to place on their top PK unit.
6.
DAL
  1. 2020 5th round pick (SJS)
SJS
  1. Polák, Roman
Additional Details:
Moving Polak is going to be a bit of a crap shoot, depending on what teams may be dealing with injuries. I just selected San Jose because their 3RD right now is either Tim Heed or Dalton Prout, and Polak could theoretically beat both out for that spot (though I love Heed and really don't like Polak that much).

Polak provides a strong physical presence on the ice. He really doesn't do much else, but he can eat up minutes on the PK and make sure the crease stays clear.
7.
DAL
  1. 2020 4th round pick (ARI)
ARI
  1. Sekera, Andrej
Additional Details:
Like Corey Perry, Sekera's trade value is going to be entirely based on whether or not he can prove that the last few seasons were injury-plagued flukes.

If he can somewhat return to pre-Edmonton form, he could be a good bottom-pairing defenseman. He could produce 20-25 points in a season and be a slight improvement over Oesterle going into the Yotes playoff run.
8.
DAL
  1. 2020 2nd round pick (CAR)
  2. 2021 3rd round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
**2020 2ND ROUND PICK CONDITION**

If Khudobin starts 50% of the Hurricanes playoff games, and they make the Conference Finals, the 2020 2nd Round Pick turns into Carolina's 2020 1st Round Pick instead

** 2021 3RD ROUND PICK CONDITION**

If Khudobin re-signs with the Hurricanes, the 2021 3rd Round Pick turns into a 2021 1st Round Pick
CAR
  1. Khudobin, Anton
Additional Details:
Khudobin is currently better than both Mrazek & Reimer. If the Hurricanes are on the playoff bubble with some questionable goaltending, Khudobin could come in and immediately take over between the pipes.

He has starting experience and is coming off the best season of his career.

Eh, a team-friendly, 1-year deal. I'm not too upset about the contract the Stars signed him to. Low-risk/high-reward kind of deal. Just takes up a roster spot more than anything.

Teams always have to overpay at the trade deadline, and they aren't getting half a season of Radulov. They are getting 2 and a half years of him. With his production, that drives his value up a little bit. If this deal was made in the offseason, you draw the deal back a little bit, but teams get desperate at the trade deadline. Hell, look at what Dallas almost had to give up for Zuccarello; they were literally a couple inches away from losing a 1st round pick, and if they'd have re-signed him they would have lost two 1st round picks, which he's absolutely not worth.

Perry is one season removed from a near 50-point season. If he's healthy, he could absolutely become a 40 point player again. It's all going to depend on his health, but you're acting like he was barely a 40-point player prior to last year.

And I would gladly take a .923 SV% (in more games played) over a .914 SV% any day of the week, but to each their own

Fair enough but I still disagree with the marazk

And that's fair. Just posted my thought process on the whole thing. I think we can both agree that either would be better than Reimer.

Interesting post and well-explained trades!

Everyone loved Radulov at MTL. He could bring offense by himself, therefore I don't think he needs linemates as good as Seguin+Benn to produce. We're probably close to his value if he continues to put a point per game.

To me, it's a big "if" for Perry. It's still possible but I wouldn't bet on that. The cost would be similar to what NYR received for Zuccarello : I don't think Perry will be as good as him in his short season with Dallas. It seems like an overpayment.

Thanks for the response! Perry is definitely a BIG "If". If he can be a 40-45 point player, he'll draw value at the deadline. If not, the Stars are simply going to have to hold him until his contract is up, after the season.

I did use the Zuccarello trade as a comparison for the Perry trade. You are correct, I don't see Perry being as valuable as Zucc was at the time, which is why I don't have any conditions tied to the 2021 3rd round pick. Regardless of whether or not Perry signs with Florida, that 3rd remains a 3rd. The only condition on the pick is if the Panthers have success in the playoffs. For a team like Florida, if Perry helps them have playoff success, I would think they'd be more than willing to part with a 1st & a 3rd for the guy. Just my thought process behind that trade.
