Montreal won't retain on two contracts one being a fresh contract just given out to Mike Reilly. Florida just signed Brett to a new deal and yes he did have a great season but in six year only scored 20 or more goals once. TATARRR has scored 20 or more in the past 5 season so why would Montreal want to retain on him or even trade him?

Their team just got instantly better.

+Upgrade mid. 6 Winger in Tatar (for 500k less) and do not waste a retention slot on him at the cost of a 2018 mid-1st.
+#5D for #7D swap (for 1/2 salary cost) in Reilly for Pysyk. Also RFA vs. UFA.
+ Recover a potential top 4 RHD in Fleury.

+Reilly is a 1-year deal, so not an issue. They still have 1 more retention slot for a TDL move if required.
+Montreal is downgrading a Top-6 20G winger for a Mid-6 1 time 20G winger. 2 year vs. 4 years as well benefits Florida. Hence the additional assets being added to the trade.

You want to sell high on Tatar, since you have the top 6 depth.
Florida cannot afford to move a recent 1st pick without recovering some sort of futures, hence Fleury.

Reilly two year deal not 1.

I do agree that now would be a great time to sell high on Tatar but you could get more for him without having to retain.

Pysyk 1 year left rental player over Reilly 2 year cheaper contract puts up same amount of point no thank you

Grigori Denisenko I felt was a reach from Florida over Fleury as you mention a potential 4 top d

good trade for Florida not to much for Montreal

Denisenko has the potential to be elite. Reilly is garbage and would rather open a slot for Mccoshen than have Reilly. Fleury has potential which makes him the only interesting piece of the deal. Again easy pass.

He showed flashes of potential last year in a Top-4 role which helps Florida out now over Mccoshen.

He's still young and has time to grow into a 5D while being a good puck mover and not out of place defensively.

Albeit a bit of a reach, I think Denisenko makes up for the difference tbh.

Removed retention from original offer on Reilly.
