It isn't so much Valsilevskiy or many of the other $$$ contracts. It's those damn NTC, NMC or even the M NTC. Johnson, Palat, Killhorn and Gourde, they just might not moveable....even next year.

I agree.
But I tried a thing, if we are in desperate need of cap relief: buyout Palat next offseason, leaving a 3.3M cap hit for 2020-2021 and then 3 years of 1.4M... Could be doable IMO especially if one or more of the 2020 RFAs sign a bridge. 2 more M in term of cap space in 2020 offseason --> once the bridge deals will be up, at least 3.9 out of the 5.3M would be off the books.

I thought Tampa made a huge mistake not trading Gourde at the draft. He didn't have a NTC till July 1st. Even if the return was minimal, so what, it's the long term cap space that is needed.

Agreed, especially when we have his perfect replacement (with more skills) in Barré-Boulet in the minors (he'll likely be on the team in 2020-21).
But, now that we are "stuck" with him, I'd definitely keep him over Palat or Johnson.
Do you think an eventual Palat buyout could make sense?
