        Gelinas was a recent 7th overall pick. https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/g/gelinma01.html

        Bjornfot went 22nd overall, and Toffoli just got 34 points as a 27 year old. 15M, with inflation, is now $33M, but the Oilers only took that offer then because Gretzky was declining and the team's then-owner's other business needed cash. Neither condition exists today, and this offer is not remotely close in any way.

        If you wanted to make a modern parallel, maybe something like Point, Sergachev, and four first picks? Or Marleau, Kapanen, and four? But the team rumored to be making moonshot offers this summer is CBJ, and they probably don't have the pieces, unless they go crazy, with, like, seven firsts?
