Your right, but I don´t think it would be that bad overall.
In this scenario they could still trade Kreider. Smith, Beleskey and Lundqvist expire within the next two years. If one of Howden, Chytil or Andersson develops into a solid 2nd line center they can also trade Zibanejad. And there are some notable prospect on defense who will be on ELC´s within 2-4 years.
So yes, they would be rigth up against the cap the next years but they still have some options
