But Barrie scores more than Jones. If the Avs re-sign all RFAs as you suggest, there's realistically only room for one mid tier UFA. Also, Roy likes to roll w 8 D and 13 F. You also have to allow about $1.3M space for callups, because players that are injured short term still count against the cap

I understand Barrie scores more, but they are two different types of defensemen.
Jones is more of a physical, shut down defensemen and Barrie is more of a puck moving, offensive defensemen.
Although an offensive defensemen may score more points than a shutdown defensemen doesn't 100% mean that he should get more money (I simply used Jones as a comparable for what the market is paying as of June 29th. I cant imagine a fair deal isn't too far off of 5.4mil).

I understand Roy likes to roll 13 F and 8 D, I simply went with who I knew received offers and what my best guess would be on the dollar amount. As for who that outstanding D man will be, your guess is as good as mine.
