I think the Hayes idea isn't bad but I think you would have to make the third rounder a second rounder that we get in some trade perhaps in the nash trade, and the conditional 5th would have to become a conditional 4th. I think with the draft come and gone Stepan doesn't get moved especially since Stamkos isn't coming. And you are overpaying for Yakupov, they only want a third rounder for him and Klein is really probably our best righty defender on the roster right now. I really like your Hayes idea, I think Shattenkirk will come to New York and supposedly his price has come down since the draft.
