Description

Leafs brass offered Marner's camp 11m x 8yrs
Making him the second highest paid winger in the league.
Which apparently has upset Marner's camp.
That makes sense :s

But the narrative from non Leaf fans is
"Leafs don't want to pay any of their players what they are worth.... we should sign Marner to my team and we will pay him what his is worth"

Do it, send him an offer sheet. I'll send Mitch on the plane myself.
Obviously no one else in the league values Marner at over 10m for less that 7 years or this would have happened.

Ferris is playing the media, which is so transparent that it has annoyed most leaf fans and id say most Canadians because TSN and Sportsnet won't shut up about it.

We are sorry. Marner wanted to go last with contracts. If the Cap was 83mil he probably would have already be signed. We are sorry you can't hear on tv about any of the other RFAs. We are also interested how Calgary and Vancouver are going to sign their RFAs with less money available. Hopefully this will be over soon.

The whole "Marner is worth 11 million" narrative only exists because Leaf haters love to overrate Leaf players when they're unsigned and because of Paul's puppets like Darren Dreger and Dave Bolland

First 3 years marner is only 4% less productive (ppg) than Matthews and he’s been healthy..... he also had the stronger year 3 ...... marner also can play 5v5 5v4 4v5. Since they have Tavares for the next 7 years maybe keeping his winger would be smart .... since (unpopular take6 Tavares is the leafs beat center right now

4% equals 2-2.5million less? Makes sense to me haha what a dumb narrative

Bc Matthews isn’t worth Matthews money. If they didn’t overpay Matthews then marner wouldn’t feel entitled to more money.... I mean for god sake Matthews is 24 % less productive than McDavid his first 3 years and got 870k$ less than him. He’s so overpaid that it’s laughable. Now try to convince a kid that’s been there and played better to take less money? Bc that’s what they are trying to do. Marner is a hometown kid that is of similar talent to Matthews but is being told he’s worth 2-3 million less ? Explain to me why he isn’t insulated.

The Goals at even strength was to show Matthews value and hey over the last 15 years in the league Id say Ovi is a top 5 player and has carried the Caps since he was drafted.

I’m 90% sure Jake Guentzel lead the nhl last year in 5v5 goals. Did that make his value sky rocket? He also is way way way better in the playoffs than Matthews. Just say 5v5 goals are important but all goals count as 1 goal so at the end of the day total goals > 5v5. Also points and defense stats. Matthews turnover ratio isn’t great. Just saying 5 year deal for Matthews at 9.5 million is extremely fair. ESP if you want your team to be competitive.

Matthews vs stamkos first 3 years are nearly identical.

If he signs for the same salary cap % as stamkos he would make 9.1million.
