You say it's about linemates while you also say that McDavid isn't the best player in the league ... Kucherov is arguably #1 (i'd say McDavid) but Matthews doesn't even make my top 10. Probably top 20 and will be a top 10 player someday IMO. Matthews over McDavid, though? How? I know McDavid has played with Draisaitl, but who else? Chiasson? Chiasson is a good player but not even close to being a top line player.

It’s not just about the goal scoring that Tavares does. He drives the play and elevates his teammates’ success. No center in the league has better advanced stats than him. Tavares is better than peak Crosby and he made Marner look like a top 6 player when he’s actually fringe!

Majority of McDavid’s points are assists which are not important. Take away those assists and Matthews has more points.

We don't know what would have happened in those 20 games. What if Matthews went on a scoring drought? Also assist do matter.

@RahefIssaLeafsHockey I do value goals higher than assists but not by that much. You said assists are not important. How are they not important? Yes, you need goal-scorers, but players who can pass the puck to the goal-scorers are also very important.

Matthews is the most consistent goal scorer in the league when healthy. He would’ve had at least two 50 goal season. He is way better than peak Malkin and Crosby combined.
