He is not bad. Just overpaid. 4.5 million for a defensive defensemen that the pens badly needed. Anyway with the cap going up for the next 7 years 4.5 million won’t be terrible when he will seriously regress

Honestly, the penguins don't "badly need" a defense man. I don't know where you get that idea.
They have a solid top 4. They even have a top 4 worthy guy on the 3rd pairing RHD.
Yes JJ is a weak link on the defense on the 3rd pairing.......like every other team in the whole league has. No one has 6 perfect defense men.
Truth is JJ as a weak link is still better than other teams 3rd pairing defense men. Don't believe me go look around the league. The penguins just embarrassed the 2nd and 3rd pairings in Philly the other night. They got torched.

So we'll keep our guy at 3.25 million for 3 more years and possibly move him for a small return. And you can keep that large cap hit for the next 7.
